Some native land animals to Monaco are the least weasel and the roe deer. The least weasel has red fur, and a fluffy white belly. The least weasel is a small mammal with a very large appetite. Equipped with sharp teeth and claws, it can take down animals larger than themselves. Small rodents are their preferred prey, but they will sometimes chase down birds, frogs, insects, and even rabbits when needed. This weasel eats about 40 - 60% of its body weight every day. Least weasels are known to take prey in quantities larger that it can consume. Another animal is the roe deer. Thid deer is reddish brown in colour during summer but becomes greyish colour winter. The tail is small and surrounded by a large white rump patch, which becomes more absent during winter. Males have short antlers, usually with three points. Their antlers are shed from October to January. The new pair are covered in a 'velvet', furred skin that supply blood to the new antlers. Monaco also has two main types of dolphins: the Atlantic dolphin that is very common, as well as the striped dolphin, common in Monaco waters. Monaco has birds like gulls, doves, pigeons and geese are common, but Monaco also has native birds like ospreys, crakes, cormorants, and gannets.
